The arrival of the first ship in the port of Damietta at the beginning of April marked the start of the plant''s commercial operations, bringing to completion Techint in Italy first large-scale project, which began in March 2007.
The methanol production plant built by Techint Italy in Damietta (Egypt) has gone into operation. The first ship arrived in early April, to load 20,000 mt of methanol produced by the plant, for sale on the international market. The event marked the completion of a broad and complex project that began in March 2007, with peaks of more than 4,000 workers on site, on a surface area of 600,000 sq.m.
The project was promoted by EMethanex, the Egyptian subsidiary of Methanex, world''s primary producer of methanol. Most of the work was subcontracted to Petrojet, Egypt''s leading construction company, while approximately 1.2 million man-hours were worked on a direct-hiring basis for activities requiring closer time and quality control.
